Gardening with Succulents

Gardening with succulents is the perfect way to change up your garden by adding some colour and texture. This will be an easy eye catching scene for anyone walking into your garden.

These succulents are very versatile as it can be planted outdoors , containers or even indoor patios!  They are the perfect plants to use as ground covers, because they are long lasting and durable as it can adapt in cool or hot temperatures. Your patio or garden can easily be changed with the help of different succulents with different textures and colours, bringing in some greenery and beauty.

One of the popular examples in many gardens are the use of spekbooms. Spekbooms are perfect for growing hedges in your garden. These plants require sun and acidic as well as drained soil to thrive! They can grow up to 3m tall, adding some height in your garden and a great alternative to building your own fence.

When  gardening succulents there are some steps to help make sure that they grow and flourish further in their new home. Firstly it is important that you plant the right succulents , as some require different needs, so pay attention to whether it’s an indoor or outdoor succulent. Pay attention to the succulents sun requirements as many need some shade while others thrive in the sun. Some options include Sedum and Cotyledon. Watering succulents is an important factor to keep in mind , but just not as frequently as you would normal plants!  A gentle spray of water every now and then will do wonders.

Eckevaria's are ideal for containers, especially on a patio. Although they will tolerate full sun, they prefer semi-shade. When planting succulents in containers make sure that they have drainage holes, as succulents don't like soggy soil. Succulents are perfect for the use in rockeries and patios as they tolerate a restricted growing environment.

Succulents are low maintenance, easy to maintain and very durable plants. They are also frost hardy with low water requirements.
