Hanging gardens

Succulents are a great excuse to get creative and revamp your backyard. For instance, if you are looking to fill in some empty spaces or even add some greenery out in your patio, you can simply plant some succulents.There are plenty examples and ideas that can be utilised to plant succulents, such as hanging gardens!

Hanging gardens are the perfect interior decor piece to add in your backyard patio. These are perfect to help add some dimension and colour. And of course it can be the perfect excuse to get creative and plant. Hanging gardens allow you to roam free with different designs, plants, textures, height and colours! In doing so it is important to keep in mind which succulents can compliment one another and which are best suited to be planted on your patio, as many have different requirements.

Ideally it is best that you plant succulents that can thrive with little water requirements to grow. Fleshy succulents for example such as Eckeveria, Sedum Angelina, Sedum rubrotincum, Crassula spathulata/ multicava, Cotyledon, Vygies, Kalanchoe and even Senecio mandraliscae are perfect succulents too mix and match with. Along with these succulents you are free to add other complimentary plants that have similar requirements that will add more colour and texture, such as rosemary or lavender.

Equipment that you will need are as simple as a hanging basket, good drainage potting soil, coir, fertiliser and your succulents of choice.

The steps are very basic, making it easy for beginners too! You will need to fill your basket with coir and then your soil and fertiliser, making sure it is well mixed and covered. This should act as your stable base for you to plant and arrange your succulents as desired. Once you have your desired outcome make sure to water  and feed them well overtime.

The water requirements are not that detrimental to your schedule, as they can be watered once a week, unless it requires more due to the wind. In most instances the wind can dry out some plants, which means you will have to relocate your hanging garden!
